SANTA ANA STAR FIELD – The Matadors of Sandia High School etched their name into New Mexico high school state baseball history, capturing the 2025 Class 5A state championship with a commanding 13-4 victory over Eldorado High School. The triumph marks Sandia's first state baseball title since 1980, ending a 45-year championship drought.
The Matadors would go out and set the tone early, exploding for four runs in the top of the first inning. Though Eldorado managed to score one in the bottom half, Sandia extended their lead with five more runs across the third and fourth innings. The Eagles attempted a comeback with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, but Sandia's offense proved relentless, adding another four runs in the sixth to seal the decisive win.

This particular victory is sweet for Sandia, a program which had faced several near misses in previous years. With a final season record of 24-8, the Matadors' championship performance showcased their determination and skill.
This title win brought even more pride to Sandia High School where it's been an astounding sports year with Girls Basketball also securing their back to back state title, the Boys Basketball program securing a runner's up state title, and multiple state champions for the boys and girls Track and Field programs.
